A popular sport for all ages, NUS Skating Club (NUSSC) has seen its strength grew to about 200 skating enthusiasts to date. Our mission is to promote love for the sport in NUS, as well as the community.

FAQ

1) Genre of skating training/practices we do. (Is it purely recreational or are there slalom and slides and other freestyles?)

We have quite a wide variety of skaters at our club. The bulk of us are freestyle skaters doing slalom and slides. There's also a bunch who do recreational skating. We have 1 speedskater and a few speedskater wannabes. For those who are interested in inline hockey, we link them up with our counterparts at NTU to join them for inline hockey training.

2) Number and timings of trainings/practices?
We skate on every Wednesday evening 6.30pm-9pm and Saturday afternoons 3pm till dinner. As we are a recreational club, we do not take attendance of our members. It is a free and easy thing. If you are busy with your school work for this week, you can just miss the skating session, we will totally understand.

3) Where are practices held?

For Wednesday evening sessions, we skate in school at the SRC multipurpose courts. Skating is allowed there, we have been granted permission by SRC.

For Saturday afternoon sessions, we go to various places like East Coast Park, Bishan, Queenstown, West Coast Park, Esplanade, and even SMU!

4) Necessary equipment (Are we required to wear guards and helmets?)

We do not require our members to wear guards and helmet. The only equipment you need is a pair of skates. However, it would be good to wear protective gears if you're learning something new. It also pretty much depends on what type of skating you are doing. Speedskaters will of course need helmet. Inline hockey players will need even more protective gears.

5) I do not have my own pair of skates, can I still join you guys?

Don't worry about not owning a pair of skates. We offer skate rental services at very cheap rates. Check out http://www.nussc.com/2009/05/skates-rental.html for more details.

However, if you are truly interested to skate on a long term basis, we recommend you purchase your own pair of skates.

6) How do I join the club?

We do not have an official club members namelist. We welcome any skater to skate with us. Sometimes we have skaters from other schools joining us as well. We also have a dentistry professor at our club. To join us at our skating sessions, you just need to be in our mailing list so that we can update you on our skating sessions. You can join the mailing list by entering your email in the "Join our mailing list" section on the right side of this webpage.
